AN EXTRAORDINARY MUSICAL JOURNEY…
After more than 35 years as an entertainer, Wayne Cobham still derives the utmost pleasure from performing. Wayne has been playing trumpet since his early childhood.
In the late 70’s, he found a new love which would bring him parallel recognition, playing his horn for multiple industry greats and computer programming. While still in its infancy, he became one of its pioneers and leaders in this burgeoning field. He was a major part of the MIDI revolution and fostered a lucrative business as a consultant, clinician, producer, and educator. His skills were utilized over many different genres of music, including but not limited to, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock n’ Roll, Jazz, Pop, and Gospel. Wayne’s proficiency and excellence helped in garnering him 4 Grammy Awards for work on Michael Jackson’s Dangerous and HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I albums and trumpet solos on Denise Williams’ “This Is My Song” and “Zanzibar Breeze” by his brother Billy Cobham. These acknowledgements, as well as others, led to Grammy membership and voting status with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Wayne is in high demand as a performer; his resume over the years reflects touring the world playing trumpet with notable entertainers as Steve Jordan, Ben E. King, Cameo, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Ray Charles, Billy Cobham, Taylor Dane, Loredana Berté, Lou
Reed, Gwen McCrae, Nancy Wilson, Charles Earland, Carlos Garnett, Denise Williams, Weeks’s Company, Brass Construction, Clark Terry, The Brothers Of The Road Band, Shelly Nicole’s blaKbüshe, Ellis Hall, Roy Ayers, Paul Simon, Sting, and Brad Paisley just to name a few. However, it doesn’t stop there! His studio/live credits include Michael Jackson, Pieces of a Dream, Nancy Wilson, Denise Williams, Patti Austin, Paul Simon, and Michael J. Fox. His
production credits include Gwen McCrae, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Dane, Dusty Springfield, Billy Cobham, Guy with Teddy Reilly, Blackstreet, Heavy D & The Boys, The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, John Mayer, and Keith Sweat among others. Wayne is also credited for horn arrangements on Josh Groban’s Harmony album.
He is still actively performing and in high demand for his Cobham Coalition jazz and R&B band. For the past 10 years, Wayne has performed musically with Steve Jordan’s SSBX Band for the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
“"Like a Leo, a trumpet player commands attention with bold, intelligent, and courageous notes. They blaze their own trail, turning every performance into a stage for leadership, confidence, and undeniable talent. With high self-esteem, they know their sound is powerful, and they aren’t afraid to let it shine. But behind every triumphant blast is the hard work and passion of someone who understands that respect isn’t just given—it's earned, one note at a time."”
